I Dreamed A Team

Why? Why does this site exist? Why The Children Of Olurun? Why are they dressed like that? Why are they wearing Timberlands? Firstly, I dreamt them up. Each member's aesthetic is a composite of people I have known or still know. Dammit, man, I am a kid from Brooklyn!!! I was raised in the era of Boom Bap, house parties and outside Summer Jams that started when the sun went down in a park and ended two hours later - or sometimes the fuzz pulled the plug (literally). I wore baggy jeans, fitteds and practiced martial arts at the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in the summers of the '90s. That team looks like I used to look and moves the way I used to move - so why not? Secondly, the Children Of Olurun represent a claim to the rich mythology of Africa (I use mythology loosely, as what is termed mythology is often religion being practiced by people all over the world today). The Orishas of the Yoruba are ancient deities of power. The name of this team is a salute to that power - and aren't we all Children of Olurun? The members of the Children Of Olurun are black and human as everyone else on Earth. They are powerful, flawed and connected to everyone on Earth. I am choosing not to be wordy. I have merch on this site and will post new ideas and merch from time to time. By the way, I have been wearing the hoodies and other stuff for over a year now, and the interest in it pushed me to set this site up. Enjoy, buy something if you wish - leave a message. -Maylin
